Premium brands have found in recent years a new vein to increase their profits from car sales. Here we can include a wide range of manufacturers, from the more 'mundane' BMW, Mercedes, or Audi, to the more luxurious ones like Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and also the more exclusive from a sports perspective like Lamborghini or Ferrari.

All of them have, to a greater or lesser extent, exclusive equipment levels and independent departments that take care of giving a more unique touch to their cars. The customization departments allow the exclusive buyer to take home a one-of-a-kind vehicle.

At Bentley, this task falls to their Mulliner design team, which handles 'Bespoke' or custom orders. Their latest creation is related to paint, a gradient that has its own name: Ombré.

The Bentley Flying Spur is the chosen one to showcase this new Ombré paint finish.

Exclusivity comes at a price

The car chosen this time to showcase its exclusive paint is the Flying Spur, the elegant British sedan, which will be featured at the upcoming International Boat Show in Southampton, UK. The color combination could not be better chosen for that event.

It is a paint gradient that transitions from Topaz Blue, present at the front, to Windsor Blue at the rear. Two highly qualified paint technicians from Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe are responsible, during 60 hours of work, for creating this unique finish, which also has a prohibitive price: around 57,800 euros.

This is a painting process that is by no means easy, as it involves creating a gradual transition between two shades that merge in the center of the vehicle, through the doors, side sills, and roof. First, the two initial colors are applied at the ends, gradually tinting the paints and applying them in stages to achieve that exclusive transition. There will be no two identical units.

Bentley already offers three different color sets with this finish, but there will be more.

To give you an idea, the difficulty of this technique means that Bentley currently only offers three options for this paint treatment: Topaz Blue-Windsor Blue, Tungsten-Onyx, and Sunburst Gold-Orange Flame. The British brand, however, promises more combinations in the future.

Bentley explains: 'Due to the complexity of combining both paints, the available color selection has been specifically chosen to ensure a uniform and gradual transition between them and avoid the appearance of a third color during the transition (for example, from yellow to blue would yield green)'.

Bentley offers an infinity of customization options, both on the exterior and interior: wood finishes, gold-plated metal components, pearlescent finishes, special tone leathers, custom embroidery, wool carpets, and a huge etcetera.

However, this level of distinction reaches exorbitant prices, as we have seen before. For example, Bentley offers custom welcome lights that cost around 20,000 euros, exclusive wood inserts for almost 7,000 euros, or leathers with custom tones for up to 20,000 euros.
