The new Polestar 7 aims high, the electric heir of the 2 promises to revolutionize the brand (and its rivals)
Polestar has already confirmed the new name of the model that will go on sale in 2027 as the successor to the smallest electric vehicle in its catalog. The heir to the Polestar 2 is already in the works, and we also know more details about this compact that will spice things up among the Premium, especially in performance and range.
Polestar already knows that large sports cars have no market, that customers are not willing to sacrifice thousands of euros for high-performance electric models that are niche. Furthermore, the Swedish brand is also aware that convertibles are not one of the body styles most appreciated by Asian customers, so it is better to redirect efforts towards more profitable ones.
In a strategic move worthy of recognition, because others would not have done it, the Swedish manufacturer has decided to put the development of the Polestar 6 on hold for a while and focus on volume models that, logically, will bring in more revenue. And one is key to the future of this sports brand that depends on Volvo. We are talking about the successor to the Polestar 2, which is already feeling the passage of time and is crying out for a replacement.
Polestar rules out niche models for now
Polestar has already confirmed the information we reported more than a year and a half ago, when we pointed out the Polestar 7 as the heir to this entry model in the range, also indicating the type of body style it will present. And yes, as the market demands, it will be a crossover with more restricted proportions that will target the German Premium.
Polestar is a brand that keeps a close watch on the development of its new models, much of which takes place in the Asian giant, so we can hardly see spy photos. A strategy that the manufacturer compensates for by transmitting information from time to time, like the one Michael Lohscheller has revealed.
The future Polestar 7 will be very advanced, and not just in range
The CEO of Polestar has instructed his design department to develop a more aggressive and sporty design, but without losing the essence of Scandinavian style, which is cooler and more minimalist. Polestar does not want to give up its genes but does want to break with a philosophy that has already run its course with the Polestar 5.
The product scheme you see above confirms that the future Polestar 7 will be a compact crossover, with a length of 4.6 meters, and built on a new platform for electric cars with a 900 V electrical network. A system that will allow for even faster battery charging, especially for one with a capacity of 90 kWh.
For now, no further technical details are known, but it will be manufactured at the new Volvo plant in Slovakia, starting in mid-2027, so it will hit European roads closer to 2028.
