Do you want to be an examiner for the DGT? These are the requirements you must meet
The General Directorate of Traffic is responsible for conducting the exams that allow candidates to obtain their driver's license. But, what do you need to do to become one of the examiners? We will tell you how the process works and who can do it.

In recent years, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has been forced to face a waiting list that grows by approximately 8,000 people per month.
This causes delays of several months in some provinces, which in turn has led both those affected and administrations to request the hiring of more examiners for the driver's license.
Once selected, the candidates for examiners of the General Directorate of Traffic must pass a selection process
Recently, the general director of the DGT, Pere Navarro, addressed this issue, pointing out that the staff is 98% complete and that what is needed is a reform to adapt a system conceived decades ago to the current population of Spain.
Although it will not solve the problem, the Ministry of Public Function plans to incorporate more than 200 examiners starting in September. However, if you want to apply for a position as an examiner for the DGT, you must meet certain requirements.
Requirements to be an examiner for the DGT
To be a driver's license examiner, you must submit an application within the period set by the DGT, as there is no open or permanent call.
Once done, it is mandatory to meet the following requirements to continue in the process:
- Be at least 23 years old, according to the General Drivers' Regulations.
- Hold the following driving licenses (all):
- Class B driving license, valid, with at least three years of seniority.
- Valid Class A2 driving license.
- Valid Class C or D driving license.
These licenses must not be subject to the administrative restriction indicated by the European Union, meaning they should not be “limited to vehicles without a clutch pedal (or manually operated lever for motorcycles)”.
What is the exam like to get the job of DGT examiner
Once selected, the candidates for examiners of the General Directorate of Traffic must pass a selection process.
This consists, first of all, of a multiple-choice exam with 100 questions directly related to the syllabus outlined in the call's bases.
Subsequently, a second exercise will be conducted, which will consist of a practical driving test of a passenger vehicle on roads open to general traffic.

The candidates with the highest scores (the number will depend on the number of positions to be filled) will proceed to complete a selective course organized by the DGT. This will aim to provide the necessary knowledge to work as a Traffic examiner.
This course is divided into two parts. On one hand, the theoretical and practical training in person at the Training Center of the General Directorate of Traffic in Móstoles (Madrid).
On the other hand, a week of practical training at the Provincial Traffic Headquarters determined for each candidate. This course is not eliminatory, but simply educational.
The final step is to pass the selection process of the General Administrative Body of the State Administration, in the Traffic specialty. At the end of this, each examiner will know their destination within the DGT's network of Exam Centers.
