This is what the Skoda 110 R would be like if history met the electric future
Skoda has ventured into retro territory. The Czech brand has unveiled a new series of sketches, drawings that direct dreams towards the impossible return of the legendary 110R. A rear-wheel-drive sports car that, even in the world of electric cars, would be more than desired in its category.

The fact that the Czech brand of the German giant is experiencing one of the best moments in its history is not preventing it from stretching the limits of a design language that is leading to a series of models that, for now, seem impossible. A few weeks ago, Skoda surprised with a modern reinterpretation of one of the most fun models in its history.
A more practical Felicia that would delight many and that, without a doubt, would be a significant triumph for the brand, as long as it did not become part of the lineup of electric cars. Because merging fun with autonomy is still not a possible reality, and perhaps not even in the latest proposal that Skoda's stylists have unveiled in a series of sketches of a myth from the manufacturer's past.

Skoda revives the legendary 110 R... in a digital world
The 110 R was a two-door sports car with rear-wheel drive that was only on sale for a decade, from the 70s to the 80s, equipped with a four-cylinder 1.1-liter engine located over the rear axle. This has been replaced by an electric one, just as the alloy wheels have given way to aerodynamic "plates" that eliminate all turbulence.
Skoda has maintained the proportions of what is a compact sports car, although it presents a detail typical of high-end models, which has a lot to do with its rear-wheel drive, and that is the more rearward cabin. But what is interesting is how the modern style of the conceptual advance of the electric Octavia has crossed paths with this 110 R. The "Modern Solid" style is noticeable in the headlights integrated into a boomerang-shaped piece, with the illuminated emblem.
The Skoda 110 R was an expensive sports car in its time
Like the rear lights, although the front ones have respected the small additional light typical of Skoda SUVs. The black front band integrates the sensors for the driving assistants, the door handles have been integrated, and Skoda could have done the same with the side cameras that act as mirrors. Retro details can be seen in the air vents under the rear windows, like the ventilation nozzles from the 70s.
Skoda has not communicated any details about its technical specifications, beyond having a rear electric motor, but it is clear that this is not like the original, which weighed only 880 kilos. In fact, its electric motor will provide greater performance compared to the only 110 R, whose 52 HP and its four-speed manual transmission allowed it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 19 seconds and reach a top speed of 145 km/h.
The 110 R was not one of the cheapest models of the old Skoda. You might be surprised to know that the 78,000 Czech crowns it cost today equate to just over 3,200 euros. Considering inflation and other factors, we would be talking about a figure in euros as high as it cost 55 years ago.
