Nissan surprises with the Primastar 2026, the change no one expected in this great minivan
It is one of the medium-sized vans that the Japanese brand markets in the European market. The Nissan Primastar is one of the most interesting options for minivan lovers looking towards 2026, featuring a significant improvement that will make driving more efficient and comfortable.

What Nissan offers is not just electric cars, crossovers, and large SUVs. The Japanese are specialists in commercial vehicles and in the necessary transformations into more family-friendly bodies. The minivan variants of these are becoming increasingly popular, with interesting options to face strong competition, such as the X-Trail that even dares to be sporty.
The Nissan Primastar is one of the most balanced options for families who love long trips and seek a high degree of driving comfort, a powerful diesel engine, and a large trunk capacity. However, since the Primastar is not a volume model like passenger cars and, of course, SUVs, it does not receive significant updates as often, neither aesthetic nor mechanical.

The updates of the Nissan Primastar 2026
So far, because the Nissan Primastar 2026 will be a more interesting model in almost all aspects. The exterior image has not been altered, but this large minivan has benefited from significant improvements. The main one, which affects driving comfort and fuel consumption, is that the old six-speed dual-clutch transmission has been replaced by a new nine-speed automatic.
This innovative gearbox features a torque converter and is supplied by the Germans at ZF, being available in the two mechanical versions in which the Primastar is sold: the 2.0-liter diesel with maximum powers of 150 HP and 170 HP. An important improvement that has also allowed increasing the maximum towing capacity from 1.8 to 2.5 tons.
More safety equipment in the Primastar 2026
The Primastar 2026 will continue to be available in two lengths -the L1, at 5.08 meters, and the L2, at 5.48 meters- and with up to nine seats. This passenger version also comes with a significant dose of driving safety assistants, some ADAS that will be standard depending on the equipment level, including blind spot alert, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and distance alert.
The updates in the interior are of lesser impact, such as the chrome on the climate control knobs and a darkened carbon fiber-style decoration, also including new connectivity technologies like the integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the eight-inch touchscreen. The cherry on top is a European warranty of five years or up to 160,000 kilometers.
