Hyundai surprises with the INSTER 2026 and a surprise that few expected from such a small car
It is one of the most attractive urban cars on the market, not only because it exudes design. The Hyundai Inster is destined to take over the cities, and in 2026 even more so with the important novelty it has just launched in a European country. The one it needs to be more family-friendly.

Hyundai has been one of the first brands to dare to enter the electric urban market. The Koreans found an affordable formula to do so, as until recently they were not convinced of the return they would achieve despite the enormous investment required. What’s the solution? To rely on the thermal combustion platform of the Casper.
That is the secret of the new Hyundai INSTER, with which they manage to maximize benefits. A model born to take over all cities with its elegant and modern design, which does not shy away from attracting attention, despite its tiny size. However, despite having an extremely attractive exterior and a well-equipped interior, the INSTER has a small problem that makes it not as family-friendly as it could be.

The Hyundai INSTER 2026 introduces a small big novelty
And that is exactly what the Koreans have solved now. Because, the INSTER was previously homologated only for four seats, so the rear seats are independent but divided into two symmetrical parts, with their corresponding foldable backs. A small but important limitation when it comes to accommodating one person, even if it is a child.
Now, in the 2026 model, the small electric Hyundai features a bench with a third seat in the center, which allows this INSTER to have five seats. However, goodbye to the comfort of two adults when this central seat is occupied. An important novelty that, for now, has been incorporated into the model for sale in the Netherlands.
The fifth seat at a golden price in the Hyundai INSTER
Of course, it is expected to also reach other countries, such as Spain, although whether having one more seat will compensate for its price is uncertain. In the land of tulips and windmills, it is an extra to have that central seat, and its corresponding seatbelt, and it costs 500 euros more than the four-seat INSTER, with the same motor, battery, and finish specifications.
It is not the only disadvantage you should consider if you are already thinking about an INSTER with five seats because, in addition to the extra expense, it also affects the weight and, therefore, the range. The five-seat INSTER increases the weight on the scale by four kilograms, going from 1,282 kilos to 1,286, so the maximum range with a full charge is reduced, from 327 kilometers to 323 kilometers. Practically nothing, but the decision is yours.
