CATL presents a super-battery for electric cars
The new Chinese battery is based on a cheap chemistry like lithium iron phosphate (LFP), offering enormous charging capacity and also energy storage, while being one of the safest among electric cars. The company has assured that this battery can provide energy to cover maximum ranges of up to 759 kilometers, according to the WLTP cycle, which is extremely attention-grabbing.
Because, normally, figures are provided according to the Chinese homologation standard, the CLTC, which marks significant differences with the European one. Among other details, the new battery not only offers an extremely long range on a single charge but also a lifespan of up to 12 years or one million kilometers. However, the supplier points out that it may lose capacity in the first 200,000 kilometers; approximately, 9%.
More than 1,000,000 km and resistant to temperatures of -20º C
Another of the innovations of this battery is its impressive charging power. The Chinese giant has installed a system that allows recharging up to 478 kilometers in ten minutes. According to tests conducted by CATL, this battery can recharge energy to cover 410 kilometers in 20 minutes at -20º C.
The company, which has confirmed production of this battery in Europe, is also equipped with a thermal runaway protection technology.
