Tesla Model Y Standard, the first details and images of the new "cheap Tesla" are revealed
We have been talking for a long time about Tesla's intentions to launch a more affordable electric car than the current Model 3 and Model Y. It will finally be a cheaper version of the latter SUV, from which official details have been leaked.

There was a time when there was a lot of talk about the possible arrival of a Tesla Model 2, a vehicle that would fill the entry-level gap in its range of electric vehicles. A model that should be important for Tesla, especially given its recent problems, with the decline in its sales and the growing threat of Chinese electric cars as key players.
Finally, Elon Musk decided not to create a new model or develop a specific platform, so rumors pointed to a more affordable version of its flagship model, the Model Y. Done deal: Tesla's electric SUV is about to be launched in a new variant called "Standard".
We know this, beyond the rumors, because some technical details of the car have been revealed thanks to a leak in the brand's configurator in the United States. After officially presenting the version at the other end of the range, the Model Y Performance, and a 7-seater version for China, the Model Y L, the next thing will be this very protagonist.

Details of the Tesla Model Y Standard
Nothing is official from the brand, but the details revealed from the leak show us some of the most important features of this new Tesla Model Y Standard, which will start at a starting price of $39,990, about €34,000 at current exchange.
This means, by the way, a significant reduction in its price level, as the cheapest Model Y on the North American market cost more than $46,000. How has Tesla managed to lower the bill? Details like simplifying the design and equipment are key.
At the front, the horizontal bar introduced in the last update of the model disappears, now featuring a redesigned look, with independent headlights on each side. The wheels are new, 18 inches, one step below the 19 of the current base version.
The new Tesla Model Y Standard does have a camera in the front bumper and a 15.4-inch front touchscreen, but not the one in the second row of seats, where the air controls are adjusted manually.
Here in the interior, there is also no panoramic roof, the steering wheel is manually adjustable, textile fabrics take center stage, the particulate filter does not have a HEPA filter, and the trunk loses a bit of capacity (28 liters).

And although the leak says nothing about it, it is expected that the traction battery will also be smaller and with LFP chemistry, like in the basic Model 3 available in some markets (of 60 kWh). We also await a reduction in the performance and electric range of Tesla's best-selling SUV.
The leak comes with an image of the vehicle, whose prototype was recently spotted in California, where we could already observe some of the aesthetic changes that were on the way and that should be made official before the end of this year.
