Spotted: The new BMW X5 2026 with production headlights, a big change is coming

Following the recent unveiling of the new BMW iX3, which completes the refreshed X3 family, the German manufacturer is now focusing all its resources on another equally important project for its extensive SUV range. The development of a new generation of the BMW X5. The fifth generation of the X5 will be a reality. A generational change that will bring numerous innovations in design, technology, and mechanics.

More than a year ago, news broke with the sighting of the first test specimen of the upcoming generation of the X5. Since then, sightings have continued. And although one might expect the debut of the refreshed BMW SUV to be just around the corner, the reality is quite different. BMW is taking its time with the development of the new X5 with the aim of equipping this model with all the necessary "weapons" to surpass tough competition.

The BMW X5 2026 is back in the news after several months. What’s the reason? Our spy photographers have once again spotted a test specimen. However, unlike previous sightings, there is a very important novelty. The spotted prototype is equipped with production headlights. And although it is heavily camouflaged, it reveals the significant change that will occur in design.

Based on the new design language that BMW is applying to its new models, the size of the X5 will be increased with the arrival of this new generation. It will be a larger vehicle and, therefore, with a more spacious cabin. Something key to improving comfort in the third row of seats. The future X5 will be available in five and seven-seater versions.

Speaking of the interior. The cabin will be completely redesigned. The aforementioned iX3 will be the reference used. And as shown by these other spy photos, the new X5 will be equipped with BMW Panoramic Vision which, as we have seen in the mentioned electric model, eliminates the need for a conventional digital instrument cluster.

Under the hood, significant adjustments will also be made. It will be available with a renewed offering of gasoline and diesel engines, both with 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) technology. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions will remain in the lineup and, with an improved electric scheme, will offer superior efficiency. And as a major novelty in this generation, there will be an electric variant. The new BMW iX5 is also in development.

When will it hit the market? If all goes as planned, the fifth generation of the X5 will be presented in the spring of 2026. Production will begin in August of next year, and the first units will be available at dealerships before 2027.
