A few years ago it seemed like science fiction, but the reality is that self-driving cars will arrive sooner rather than later. Most major automotive groups are developing technologies and prototypes that will make driving without a driver a reality, with the year 2020 set as a turning point for its viability.

Autonomous driving will have an unprecedented impact on the automotive industry not only due to the sophisticated technology it will entail but also because of the expected drastic reduction in accidents and the innovative design possibilities that will open up. New forms of mobility will also affect specific legislations and insurance management.

New forms of connectivity and communication between cars or the vehicle itself with the infrastructures it travels through - traffic lights, closed streets, presence of emergency vehicles, traffic, etc. - will open a new scenario.
