BMW has set in motion all its machinery to tackle the development process of a new generation of its largest SUV. The second generation of the BMW X7 will become a reality. Among the main novelties that the German SUV will feature is an electric variant. The new BMW iX7, which has been spotted during the testing phase.
The time has come for the largest SUV from BMW to undergo a generational change. The BMW X7 made its particular debut in society in October 2018. A model that burst onto the scene with the aim of crowning the growing SUV family of the German manufacturer. Years later, in April 2022, this model underwent a significant update. A facelift to keep it up to date and able to face the rest of its commercial life ahead.
Time has passed and the competition is fierce. Therefore, it is vital that the X7 undergoes a generational change. The second generation of the X7 will become a reality. The development process has begun. A generation that will add important novelties to the X7 range, many of them unprecedented. Among them stands out a 100% electric variant that is being developed in parallel to the thermal model. There will be a BMW iX7. An electric X7 that has been spotted during the testing phase.

Only a few months have passed since a test specimen of the new generation of the X7 was photographed in broad daylight. Again, another heavily camouflaged unit has been sighted while driving on open roads. And although at first glance it could pass for another unit of the future thermal X7, the truth is that under all that camouflage lies a great novelty. The new iX7.
As we mentioned in previous articles, the second generation of the X7 will have its particular electric alternative in the BMW range just like the rest of the brand's SUVs. An electric alternative that, barring any last-minute surprises or changes, will be named iX7.
The majority of the exterior is covered with BMW's characteristic camouflage and, as can be seen, the lights are provisional. Certain elements will not be carried over to the production vehicle. In terms of design, it will adopt a whole series of elements and features that are already characteristic of the Neue Klasse that has recently debuted with the new BMW iX3. However, the future iX7 will have its own personality to stand out in the elitist segment where it competes.
Great autonomy and high performance for the new BMW iX7
The "heart" of the iX7 will be a huge next-generation lithium-ion battery capable of powering two motors, one for each axle. It will feature an all-wheel drive configuration. The autonomy will exceed the barrier of 600 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. And thanks to an 800-volt electric architecture, it will support ultra-fast charging.
When will it hit the market? If all goes as planned, the new generation of the X7 will be presented in the spring of 2027, reaching dealerships in the fall of that year. It is expected that both the thermal X7 and the electric iX7 will be unveiled at the same time.
